Apostle Bertha A, Johns, Pastor
Apostle and Pastor:
A Life of Christian Service and Leadership
Since answering the call to ministry in 1992, Apostle Bertha Alvina Johns has devoted over 30 years to Christian leadership, fulfilling her God-given mission to serve others. In 1996, she founded Take Back Our Communities Ministries (TBOC), originally established as a benevolent outreach ministry providing essential resources to the homeless and needy. Under her leadership, TBOC has flourished into a full-fledged church and ministry, offering food, clothing, spiritual guidance, and comprehensive ministerial support through regular outreach efforts. For nearly 20 years, TBOC has also regularly sent resources to God’s Chosen People by supporting charities in various parts of the world. In addition, the ministry has extended its compassion to Latin America, supporting individuals in need through charitable organizations dedicated to humanitarian aid in the region. In April 2023, she was commissioned and certified as an Apostle, affirming her deep commitment to shepherding God’s people.
Apostle Alvina Johns’ ministry journey has been marked by her unwavering dedication and versatile leadership. From 1997 to 2001, she served as Youth Pastor at Gates of Deliverance Ministries, mentoring young people, leading worship, and supporting the church community. Following this, she spent a decade (2001–2011) as an associate minister at The Church of the Living God, where she delivered powerful messages, led praise and worship, and supported the pastor and congregation in various capacities.
In 2011, Apostle Johns obeyed God’s instructions to return to full-time pastoral ministry with TBOC, leading congregations in Round Rock, Texas, and ministering to residents at Falcon Ridge Rehabilitation Center in Hutto, Texas, from 2015 to 2020. At Falcon Ridge, her work included preaching, prayer, revivals, and offering compassionate pastoral care. Even after returning to Falcon Ridge after the pandemic, she has continued ministering to residents bi-weekly. Additionally, in 2015, she established an ongoing weekly Bible study and in the spring of 2024, a weekly prayer meeting both in-person and via conference call.
In 2017, Apostle Johns also established the TBOC Homeless Ministry.
In January 2023, Apostle Johns expanded her ministry by joining the volunteer ministerial team at the T. Donn Hutto Detention Center in Taylor, Texas. There, she preaches the Word of God—translated into Spanish—and prays with detainees on a monthly basis. She also provides apostolic services and support to a local ministry in Austin, Texas, continuing to fulfill her calling with grace and dedication.
A Heart for Education and Community Service
Apostle Johns’ life is also defined by her passion for education and community involvement. She holds a Master of Science in Human Resources Management from Houston Baptist University and a Bachelor of Science in Organizational Communications from the University of Texas at Austin. She is certified as a Texas public school administrator and teacher, specializing in special education.
Her professional achievements include receiving the Round Rock ISD Teaching Excellence Award in 2005 and being honored in Who’s Who Among American High School Teachers in 2004. She has served on advisory and curriculum committees, including the Round Rock ISD District Advisory Council (2018–2020) and the Textbook Adoption Committee (2019–2020).
Apostle Johns has made significant contributions to her community through roles such as mentoring in the AISD Adopt-A-School Program at Linder Elementary and serving as a board member for the Greater Mt. Zion Nursery School. She is currently a member of Leadership Round Rock ISD (2024–2025) and was an active member of the 2024 Round Rock ISD Bond Election Committee.
